How I Keep My Kids Rooms Organised

It’s a constant struggle keeping my kids room clean but I have found that since watching Marie Kondo on Netflix and Steph’s Organistional Queen skills on her Just Another Mummy Blog has made me have a lightbulb moment. Seriously where have you been all my life ladies!

Currently my 9 year old daughter has her own room and my 2 boys 7 and 6, share a room together. The baby will be in the room with me for a first few months.

Grab a bag and get rid of anything that is old, don’t use, broken or just looks plain nasty. I can’t stress enough about getting rid of a big chunks of clutter. Less clutter means less mess to make and clean up. This also means, cull the kids clothes, anthing that doesn’s fit, has holes or horrible stains or they just plain don’t wear it. Bin it or donate it. Less clothes means less washing and folding.

Storage

I find organising toys and storing them in containers keeps everything in its place and it makes easier access for the kids to get to. I use the large Kmart Storage Container on wheels, ones that will fit under my kids bed.  I can fit 4 under a single bed in a row. I label the containers for construction/LEGO, blocks, trainset, Mr. Potato Head etc, whatever I have in bulk. Then I put the plush toys/pillow pets etc in the round flexible plastic tubs. I keep a spare smaller tub/or container for the random toys I find that I will store away for later if I’m busy and I store the kids puzzles and board games on a Kmart Ladder Shelf. Books are also stored in the cube shelves but soon I will be relocating them to another bookshelf.

Clothes

With both my kids rooms as we dont have much cupboard space, our built-ins have a rack and thats it. So I hang all the shirts, jumpers, uniforms and dresses up and fold all the shorts, trackies, pj’s and skirts, plus socks and underwear and put them in draws. Each drawer has a specific spot like socks and underwear, making sure the socks are paired with each other and I also try and buy plain white socks so its easy to not lose pairs, pj’s and trackies and shorts and skirts. I also keep long pj’s and short pj’s in their own seperate pile and the same goes with the unifrom shorts, boardies and jeans have their own pile in the drawer.

Kids Bedroom Chores

Every morning the kids are to make thier beds, open their blinds/windows, put any rubbish in the bin or dirty clothes in the dirty basket and put any toys/books away.

On the weekends I will get the kids to dust and vacuum their rooms and also get rid of any rubbish.

I find that giving the kids these jobs for their rooms daily teaches them responsibility and respecting their area by keeping it clean. Also daily daily habbits for when they get older.

I’m still not completely happy with how my kids rooms are, I haven’t completely organised it the way I would like it and yes my kids still trash their rooms. But the mess is way smaller than it used to be!

So stay tuned for future oraganisation of my kids rooms. I’m yet to become the Organised Queen I dream of being, at the moment I’m just winging it.

Thankyou for reading and I hope you enjoyed and got some useful tips. Please feel free to leave a comment or like down below.

My Pregnancy Journey with Baby #4

As we all know pregnancy is a beautiful journey, the excitement of finding out that you’re with child, feeling those first flutters and then those strong kicks, watching your baby bump grow or for others, it’s well more like a rollercoaster that you didn’t expect to go on. The morning sickness or shall we say all day and night sickness, feeling so hungry you could eat the entire contents of Coles and Woolworths down the road but then you can barely tolerate the smell of your favourite food or drinks. In my case I knew what I was in for, or so I thought.

I didn’t expect to go off work early from 20 weeks with Doctors orders from having severe cramps and Braxton Hicks, some crazy irrational hormones and an iron level that won’t stop going down, goodbye energy! Fast forward and I’m now 31.5 weeks and I feel like my vagina is going to fall out, literally! I’m talking about waddling into school feels like I’m going on a journey with Frodo Baggins, about to throw the ring into the fiery pits of Mordor, yet my ring will be the one on fire in less than 9 weeks time. The joys of pregnancy. So I now sit in my car reading blogs about #stephing, missing out on that school mum goss of recipes to make, what’s new at Kmart or how their Tinder date went on the weekend.

I had plans to be active throughout my pregnancy but that wasn’t able to happen. However being a mum, your life never stops being active from sun up to sun down and sometimes you’re on midnight shift, plus the never ending chaos of cleaning and the mountain of laundry. Even though I’m still being active, I’m listening to my Doctor and my body as my health and the baby’s health comes first. So my Rockwear Maternity tights can stay in the cupboard for now.

Now my last 8-9 weeks are getting organised for this baby boy to come. Setting up the nursery, finishing the cot, getting ready for the baby shower and packing the hospital bag.

I hope you enjoyed my first blog, there will be more to come and until then have a wonderful day.

Being More Mindful

Parenting is a beautiful gift but it can also be one of the hardest things in life, it’s like a combination of rainbows and a giant ball of love followed by wanting to curl up into a ball and rock back and forth in the corner. But you wouldn’t change being a parent for anything.

IMG_3714.JPG

I often find myself losing it over the smallest things, probably because I have repeated myself 10 times a day over the same thing and still no one listens, but somehow my children come home with certificates from school for great listening, go figure. Being a Mum sometimes feels like groundhog day, the constant cleaning of the same thing everyday, always doing the laundry and the pile never seems to shrink, floors never stay clean, no one else can see the bin overflowing, children always trashing their room, cooking every day, school drop offs and pick ups. You think you would have more hours in the day, once the kids were in school but no, you drop them off and boom, you’re off to pick them back up.

Then there’s no time for yourself until the kids are in bed, thats if they sleep. Oh I went through that for years, having 3 kids under 3.5 years. I was up at least 10-15 times a night. If it wasn’t a bottle, someone was teething or the other one woke the other one up. Then hello 5am morning cuddles. But by the time the kids are in bed you are pretty much exhausted and just go to bed yourself.

I often find myself thinking so many negative thoughts, which usually put me in a bad mood and find myself snapping over a sock on the floor. But what I have come to realise is that, one day my children will be all grown up and moved out, there will be no mess to clean up, no sock on the floor, no over flowing bin, no school runs, no more sounds of laughter or them trying to kill each other over who had the red texta first. I will somehow miss this chaos of motherhood.

I try and be more mindul, by being grateful for the things I have before thinking negative thoughts. We often take things for granted.

I try and be more mindful when I have those overwhelming feelings of negative thoughts. I try and stop and think of the things that I often take for granted.

  • A house to clean = a roof over my head
  • Clothes to wash = clothes to wear
  • Kids messy room = a room for my children
  • A bed to make = a bed sleep in
  • School runs = education for your children
  • Noisy kids running a muck = healthy kids at home and not in the hospital
  • Dishes to clean = food to eat
  • Bath water all over the floor = clean running water

Writing in my gratitude journal and drinking my Healthy Mummy Pregnancy Smoothie

Every morning I wake up early before the kids most times, so I can enjoy that quiet morning bliss while I sip on my coffee and write in my gratitude journal. Since I have been writing in my gratitude journal, I Am Happy, I Am Here. I have found myself to be a bit more calmer and more grateful of the life I have. It’s still exhausting and hard but like I said earlier, one day all this will be gone and it will be just me in my clean, quiet house.

Mumlife will always have it’s challenges, but when you feel those overwhelming feelings coming on, try and take a step back and think about 3 things that you are grateful for. Write it down or say it out loud, even if you are doing it with clenched teeth.

Always remember you are doing a great job and you got this Mumma!

How About We Teach Them Love, Empathy and Respect.

Love this 💖 always teach them love, empathy and respect 💕

What’s the first thing you see in this photo that YOU THINK is wrong? (No we are not going to a dress up party.)

I’m dressed as a tradie, if you didn’t know me, that could be my job.

Abigail is wearing black and skulls and skeletons. Which she could have picked out all on her own.

Why is your son in pink? I can dress him how ever I want. If Axel could choose what he wanted to put on, I would allow him to dress up as a princess (if that’s what he wanted).

Now I have a question.

Why is it that if Abigail was dressed as a super hero, police officer or tradie no one would bat an eyelid! But, if Axel was dressed up as a princess or a fairy people would do a double take? Honestly he is my son not yours and who…
